the jim forest scholarship and bursary fund

The Institute for Religion, Peace and Justice provides a limited number of scholarships based on academic merit and potential and bursaries based on financial need. The bursaries are offered to the student on a first come first served basis, so it is important that students apply very soon after deciding to apply to the Certificate program. The scholarships are awarded to students who have displayed high academic achievement or potential in the field of religion, peace and conflict, and decisions for these will be announced three weeks before the start of the new semester. Scholarships and bursaries are available only to students who complete the full Certificate program.

This fund is named after the Orthodox Christian writer, lay theologian, educator, and peace activist, Jim Forest, whose important contributions to the world of nonviolence and peacemaking span many decades. To learn more about his rich experience and inspiring legacy, click here and here.

IRPJ's scholarships and bursaries typically cover 15% of tuition, though larger amounts are sometimes offered as well. The matching scholarships and bursaries are granted to students who work for a peace and development organization that has agreed to contribute $1,500 towards the student's tuition; these scholarships and bursaries therefore cover a combined total of approximately 45% of the student's cost of tuition.

Students must confirm their place with a $200 deposit by clicking here and following the prompts before their scholarship and bursary application will be considered and accepted.
